Last week, Bruce Rauner visited Champaign with a series of campaign stops. According to the News-Gazette he had a busy day scheduled on his January 10th visit:
7:45 a.m. — Downtown Caf; 217 N. Main St., Decatur
9 a.m. — Decatur Civic Center; 1 Gary K. Anderson Plaza, Decatur
10:45 a.m. — CHI Overhead Doors; 1485 Sunrise Drive, Arthur
12:20 p.m. — Candy Kitchen; 101 W. Sale St., Tuscola
3:00 p.m. — Merry Ann’s Diner; 1 E. Main St., Champaign
4:30 p.m. — TCT Construction; 805 E. Perkins Road, Urbana
5:45 p.m. — Farren’s Pub; 308 N. Randolph St., Champaign
However, Rauner’s last stop at Farren’s Pub never happened. According to a tipster who went to Farren’s for the event, they instead found this on the door:
The tipster also said that they were told by employees that the News-Gazette was wrong and there was no campaign stop there. But, low and behold, the Rauner campaign bus pulled up outside. After the owner from Farren’s had a few words with people in suits, the bus left without Rauner ever getting off, according to the tipster.
This of course could have all been a misunderstanding or miscommunication, it happens. But there may be more to the story here and I’d love to see the media follow-up on it.
Nonetheless, we know that Bruce Rauner was not welcome at Farren’s on January 10th.
(Thanks to the tipster, who provided me with his name but wanted to remain anonymous, who sent the photo. There was more information I was given but unable to verify, so if there is anyone who has anymore information – or someone who is in the media wants to do some digging – feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org)
